Engine Oil

Why do we need to use engine oil?
Engine oil protects the engine. It does this by lubricating, cleaning as well as cooling the engine and all the moving parts. This helps to reduce wear and tear in the engine.

How often should I change my car’s oil?
It’s recommended that you change the oil in your car every six months or at the very least once a year.

How can I check the oil level in my car?
Check the engine oil level using the dipstick when the engine is cold – you should perform this check twice. Engine oil will tend to get darker in colour as it ages.

Why change the engine oil?
A major factor in premature engine wear and oil seal failures is a lack of oil changes. Over time, engine oil breaks down and wears out. When it does, it becomes less effective at lubricating the engine and absorbing heat. You should change the oil in your engine before it breaks down and causes major engine troubles.

What signs should I look out for that there is an oil problem?
Check for signs of oil on the driveway after your vehicle has been parked.

Remember – it’s a lot cheaper to regularly change your oil than to have to replace your engine.
