Battery

How can I make sure my battery is properly fitted?
Ensure that the battery terminals and cable connections are clean and tight to enable proper current flow. Corrosion at the battery terminals can prevent a car from starting by adding electrical resistance. You can help prevent this by cleaning the terminals periodically using water and a wire brush.

How can I maintain my car battery?
Check the electrolyte level and top up with water if required. Keep batteries clean and dry. A dirty battery surface can lead to a discharge and corrosion. Ensure to avoid spilling oil or grease onto the top of the battery. Under-charged or under-used batteries will slowly go flat over time which will reduce the life of your battery. It’s important to keep a battery fully charged to ensure maximum life.

How long will my car battery last?
On average, a battery can last about four years. However, this will depend on where you live and how you drive, the condition of your charging system, and a number of other factors.

Are there any safety tips on batteries?
Do not place metallic objects on top of the battery as this may cause the battery to short. Batteries contain sulphuric acid so be careful and ensure that no part of your body comes into contact with the acid. In such an event, use large amounts of water to neutralise and flush the acid away.

Remember – a battery labelled “low maintenance” or “maintenance free” could still be low on fluid.
